Welcome to Round 3 of 'The $ilver Dollar $aloon $ong Challenge'. To recap:
.
Round 1
Dr. John: 'Right Place, Wrong Time' - 11 votes
Average White Band: 'Pick Up The Pieces' - 4 votes
.
Round 2
Dr. John: 'Right Place, Wrong Time' - 9 votes
Jonny Lang: 'Rack 'Em Up' - 4 votes
.
.
There is ONLY 1 RULE in this contest, and the rule is that I am only allowed to use songs that I have heard played at the $ilver Dollar $aloon in Virginia City, Nevada!
.
.
The $ilver Dollar $aloon is one of the quirkiest bars I've ever been in. (Their slogan is: "Dogs Welcome; People Tolerated".) So, as you can imagine, some of the music played in the saloon can be rather unusual. And such is the case with today's challenger.
.
Have you ever heard of Greg & Steve? Yeah, I hadn't either, until a December day in 2019 when one of their songs came booming through the $ilver Dollar $aloon's speakers. Greg & Steve play music to educate & entertain children, and their story is pretty interesting:
[link> Greg & Steve @ Wackypedia
.
I'll never forget that day when I heard Greg & Steve's 'THREE LITTLE PIGS' BLUES cranked up to eleven at The $ilver Dollar $aloon. I thought: What the helck is THIS?! As I nearly fell off my barstool... from laughing.
.
Will Dr. John successfully defend his #1 position? Or will Greg, Steve, and their Three Little Pigs dethrone the current Champ?
.
Alright, let's get on it. Let's get ON this thing!
.
.
Dr. JOHN: 'Right Place, Wrong Time'

.
After voting here, please visit the other 'Battle Of The Bands' participants and let your two cents be counted there as well.
.
I'll return here on or about February 8th to cast my own "bote" and announce the winner.

Hello Stephen!
ReplyDelete"Right Place, Wrong Time" is an oldie I know. I didn't know the "Three Little Pigs Blues" or group but honestly, I got such a kick out of this tune that I'm giving my vote to Greg & Steve. What fun!
My BOTB is up anytime you want to stop by to vote. ;) Have a bandtastic day!
CAThy!
DeleteI'm pleased as spiked punch that you enjoyed the 'Three Little Pigs' Blues tune by Greg & Steve.
Going into this Battle, I knew of course that Dr. John was destined to win. But I was hoping some people would enjoy hearing a famous nursery rhyme set to a Bluesy rhythm. I was also hoping that I wasn't setting myself up here for my first ever shutout. But you put an end to that concern with the very first vote. Thanks, my friend!!
~ D-FensDogG
Stephen,
DeleteI did enjoy the "Three Little Pigs' Blues". I'm glad I was able to put your concerns to rest about this battle being a shutout. :)
Mr Stephen -
ReplyDeleteNot sure what happened to my comment. It just disappeared while I was typing it out on my phone. Knowing me, I most likely fat fingered and hit publish too soon.
Anyhoo... My vote is for Dr John!
Stop by my place and cast your vote for Glenn Miller or Wilson Pickett.

MMQE ~
DeleteI dun been had dun that, m'dear.
I'm going with Glenn to the bitter end (or until I can find a Tiny Tim phone number song ;-)
~ D-FensDogG
Happy New Year to you, Stephen! I like the new BOTB logo. ☺ As for the battle, The Three Little Pigs was a fun novelty song, but I'm sticking with Dr. John.
ReplyDeleteDEBBIE D'DOGLADY ~
DeleteHey, thanks so much for the good New Year's wish, and for the compliment on my new BOTB logo. After 8 or 9 years, I figured it was time for a change. And when I saw my Brother was throwing out his old, red boxing gloves, the idea was born't in my noggin.
I'm glad you liked the Piggy Blues. I knew it wasn't going to beat Dr. John, but it's so much fun - and Greg & Steve imbue it with so much energy - that I really felt like it deserved to see the light of day on my BOTB blog.
I hope your 2023 is off to a good start!
~ D-FensDogG
Stephen, I plan on rejoining BOTB effective March 1 and I created a new blog for it, Coming Soon!. Could you please add my link in for next time? Thank you! ☺
DeleteDEBBIE D'DOGLADY ~
DeleteHey, that's terrific news! I always thought you put together top-notch BOTB installments and I have missed your participation, as I'm sure others have, also.
I will add your link to my sidebar list of BOTB participants RIGHT NOW! And I will announce your reincarnation... resurrection... return... - (pick an "r" word, any "r" word!) - in my March 1st BOTB post, in order to make certain that EVERYONE is aware of the fact that... she's ba-aaa-ck!
I look forward to your new debut!
~ D-FensDogG
Thank you! I'm looking forward to it. It's been fun putting a new blog site together, as well. ☺
DeleteThe little pig song is a clever novelty piece, but not something I'd listen to very often. Once again it's Dr John for me and I'm sure he will win this round.
ReplyDeleteLee
LEE ~
DeleteYeah, the 'Three Little Pigs' Blues is clever & has a natural-born Blues theme. Even though I knew it wasn't going to beat 'Right Place, Wrong Time', sometimes I just need to have a little fun, ya know? Like, fun? :^D
I think Dr. John could possibly go wire-to-wire in this ongoing contest. But there are at least a couple songs I intend to use in the future which might have a decent shot at upsetting the favorite.
~ D-FensDogG
Novelty songs should be short, and Pigs is three times too long. It was fun... for a very short time. I am glad they did not decide to sing the tale of "The Hobbit, Or There And Back Again" as I would STILL be listening to the song. Well... I lie. I wouldn't, since I could not even quite make it through the whole pigs song as it was.

SIXGUN McCHEERFULFINGER ~
DeleteI'm genuinely sorry that you did not enjoy this lighthearted match-up the way I and several others have, and that you found the epic three & a half minute running time of the 'Three Little Pigs' Blues about three minutes too long. (I guess a 30-second song strictly about the Big Bad Wolf would have been your preference.)
Hopefully, my next Battle in March will be mo' to yer liking.
Stay effervescent, my friend!
~ D-FensDogG
Well, I feel bad! I forgot to vote, so only my comment the pig song's length appeared and it seemed as though I didn't get the mirth and was too unhappy to even vote.
DeleteNot true.
I thought it was cute, just too long of a children's story... one we've all heard. Anyway... lots of words to say I DID get the humor. Sorry! And I AM voting, but again for Dr. J.
Sixgun McStayingThirstyFinger
Your vote for Dr. John had been assumed.
Delete~ D-FensDogG
I think I too would laugh out loud if I heard Greg and Steve come on at the local dive bar, but I also wouldn't be mad at it. That might be the manliest children's song I've ever heard.
ReplyDeleteNot only is this battle a blast, but it was closer than I thought. Ultimately, like some of the others, I lean toward what I would listen to more often, and I'd much rather listen to Dr. John on repeat than Three Little Pigs, which is more of a novelty and a touch too long for me.
Greg and Steve were worth the listen, but Dr. John is worth the bote.
~Chief J S-A
HOW!... Do you do, [Link> CHIEF JUICY FRUIT?
DeleteOver my 6 decades, I've been in bars all across this country, and some in Mexico, also. And I can honestly say that I can't think of one other watering hole / gin joint where I might have heard the 'Three Little Pigs' Blues played. The Silver Dollar Saloon in Virginia City is, as far as I know, a truly unique place to consume Evidence.
Thanks for dropping your two cents into the BOTB kitty. I'm glad you enjoyed this silly little contest. "Jocularity! Jocularity!"
~ D-FensDogG
Howdy Stephen T.!
ReplyDeleteThis is an absolute crack-up! Knowing that it's all in fun, and that you instigated said fun, I'm voting for the pigs - I mean Greg and Steve! Thanks for the smiles ;-)
Howdy, dIEDRE ~
DeleteI'm so glad you approached this Battle in the spirit in which it was offered and that you enjoyed it so much. I have to admit that I chuckled while putting this thing together.
And, appropriately enough, so far, the Three Little Pigs have garnered three little votes!!! How synchronicitous and congrutiating!
~ D-FensDogG
Why do I suddenly have a craving for bacon?? That is a funny song and qell done but my heart belongs to Dr. John.
ReplyDeleteHiYa, BIRGIT ~
Delete>>... Why do I suddenly have a craving for bacon??
Ooh! Ooh!
And how about a [Link> Hamm's beer to wash it down with? ;^)
You clearly got into the spirit of this thing. Thanks!
~ D-FensDogG
Greg and Steve have a great record there! I'll go with them....
ReplyDeleteBROTHER JOHN ~
DeleteKnowing you dig the Blues, I thought you just might go with the 'Three Little Pigs' Blues. I asked my Magic 8-Ball if you would and it said, "Without A Doubt". Ya see? The 8-Ball knows these things every bit as much as I do.
~ D-FensDogG
Go with Dr John but fun pig song
ReplyDeleteMIKE ~
DeleteI'm glad you enjoyed the match-up.
Yeah, I never thought a children's nursery rhyme could get down and Bluesy like this.
~ D-FensDogG
And Stephen,
ReplyDeleteGood battle. Even better than I been had pre-judged. But I'm stickin with Dr. John. Especially after takin a deeper dive into the lyrics. That seem to line up pretty well with that Show No Emotion In A Big Way Tour.
I been on the right trip
But I must have used the wrong car
Head is in a bad place and I wonder what it's good for...
I've been running trying to get hung up in my mind
Really got to give myself a good talking to this time...
I been in the right world
But it seems like wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong...
Wonder which way do I go to get on out of here...
I was in the right trip
But I made it in the wrong car
Head is in a good place, and I wonder what it's bad for
JW,
Pooh!
...AND, POOH, THAT'S NOT ALL!... ~
DeleteThe 'SHOW NO EMOTION IN A BIG WAY' TOUR certainly had its moments.
Wasn't that the one where they stole your car on the Indian reservation, but because we had listened to my Ma, we had gotten a spare set of keys, and we were able to steal the car back again?
And wasn't that the trip where I straightened out your life on the steps at some high school in Wyoming, during a rain storm? And where you went to jail in Mexico? But because we had listened to my Ma, we had a spare set of keys to the jail, and I sneaked you out when the jailer passed out from drinking too much mezcal?
And wasn't that the trip where you fell through the ice, into the pond, and died from hypothermia, but you managed to save your beer? And where we got lost two blocks from our motel but the nice sailor boy came along and showed us to a taxi driver who refused to help drunken cowboys in Reno? And I told the girl behind the counter to drink "like a gentleman", and she asked you, "Do you want it in a pahw-keht?"
Hmmm.... Somehow, I think all of our misadventures have gotten jumbled up in my mind. It must have been the Mickey's malt liquor. (You never shoulda started!!)
~ D-FensDogG
Sounds accurate to me as I laughed out loud during the whole thing. You see you had a switch but my switch was broke cuz it's old. Thanks for the stumble down memory lane. I used to think we were a good team but it seems like after a few drinks we got into nuthin but trouble. Thank God your Ma had some good sense. I remember saying something like "you had to listen to your Mother!" when we had to use to other key. Only a very twisted mind wouldn't be happy that there was a solution, provided by someone with very good sense, that solved the problem. Fn Mickey's. Wouldn't trade those moments though. Grateful to be alive. Did you see Warren Zevon got nominated for the RNR Hall of Fame (albeit he probably wouldn't want it). What with Desperados under the Eaves and all.
DeleteJW and thanks for straightening out my life in Wyoming, Samohi and elsewhere.
Pooh
If not for listening to my Ma, we'd have taken [Link> THIS PICTURE from outside of your car, rather than from within it. HA!
DeleteTraveling with you, I learned my lessons well, and nowdays I restrict my drinking to nothing except a little beer and wine... and whiskey... and gin... and rum... and brandy... and absinthe... and vodka... Well, I don't drink tequila, is what I'm trying to say.
~ D-FensDogG
Al Bondigas here. Very fun stuffs here. I have a feeling Greg and Steve may have done some other fun songs as well. Have you looked into any of their other tunes? As you know I've always enjoyed humorous, novelty type songs such as Roger Miller's and Jim Stafford's stuff, and I like the 'Three Little Pig Blues' as well, but I'm gonna have to rule fer Dr. John's 'Right Place wrong Time'. That's gonna be tough to beat. Rulin' fer Dr. John. That's it, that's muh rulin'.
ReplyDeleteJUDGE AL ~
DeleteRight, right! I need to check out some more Greg & Steve. (Hmmm.... If their music career ever fails, they should start up an ice cream brand to compete with Ben & Jerry.)
Thanks fer yer rulin', "Judgey".
This match-up was just for the fun o' it, because anyone with a lick o' sense (maybe even without a lick o' it) would know that G&S weren't going to beat The Good Doctor in this contest. But I just *HAD* to give 'em a Rocky Balboa chance, because it was just so improbable that the 'Three Little Pigs' Blues was actually played in a hole-in-the-wall Western sa-LOON.
