Welcome back, my friends, to the "Battle" that never ends.
We're so glad you could attend. Come inside! Come inside!
.
This is 'BATTLE OF THE BANDS' ('BOTB') where you listen to different recordings and vote for the one you like best. A new Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and on the 7th, I place my own vote, tally 'em all up and announce the winner.
.
Friend? Foe? Stranger? No matter, ALL are welcome. So pull up a chair, pour yourself 24 oz. of DOG BITE High Gravity Lager (or the poison of your choice) and turn it up to Eleven!

RESULTS: BATTLE OF THE BANDS -- 2017, FEB. 1 (Or, MILES DAVIS VS. CHRIS BOTTI)

.
.
STMcC’s Vote On '2017, February 1st: Battle Of The Bands' (Or, 'Miles Davis Versus Chris Botti') And The Final Tally:
❤
As always, first and foremost, my genuine thanks to every one of you who took the time and trouble to vote here. Without you, there would be no "Battles".

Despite the fact that for the second time in a row the vote totals were down, this turned out to be a pretty terrific contest. From the outset, I figured that just the legendary name Miles Davis would cause a BOTB blowout. Sixgunboy McItchyfinger also predicted a Miles landslide. And even the new and improved .Magic 8-Ball. -- now with the electrolytes that plants crave -- confidently stated that a Miles Davis victory was something we could ."rely". on.
.
Aww, but not so fast, not so fast! This thing was neck-and-neck, trumpet-to-trumpet from start to finish.
.
My own vote did go to the legend, Miles Davis. Although I abbalouly love the album A Thousand Kisses Deep, from which Chris Botti's version of MY FUNNY VALENTINE originates, and although I do think that there's a touch more passion in Botti's playing of the song than in Miles' rendition, there's a slightly more lush, really romantic tone in the latter's playing. Plus, let's not forget that flirting piano! To my ears, anyway, the Miles recording sounds more like wine and candlelight; Botti's maybe leans more toward nakedness on a bear skin rug in front of a lustily glowing fireplace. Not that there's anything wrong with that. (Hey, is it getting warm in here, or is it just me?)
.
Here's the outcome:
.
Miles Davis = 9 votes
Chris Botti = 9 votes

.
I'm not even going to say it because
y'all already know what I'm thinking!
.

As I mentioned previously, this was my first of two
Valentines Day-themed BOTB installments.

My next one will be on February 15th, of course, and I hope all of you favorite DogGs and DogGettes of mine will be here for that. I've been looking forward to this ."Twisted  BOTB". contest for several months. Not only do I think it will be the most unique Battle concept I've ever dreamed up, but it may even inspire some very interesting non-music-related discussions in the comment section.
.
So, please return here for the next installment of Battle Of The Bands. It'll be drop-dead love-ly! ("And you tell 'em that you heard it here first on Roller Derby.")

I want to appeal this ruling (by a so-called judge) to a three judge appeals panel. That panel can include ME, StMcC, and Pooh.

Botti's version was like lying naked on a bear skin rug in front of a lustily glowing fireplace... and FALLING ASLEEP.

    With your sister, apparently.

Not that you'd ever stoop to stacking the deck or anything, right?
      :o)

Yeah, how come I always wind up with my Sister?

  2. So you had a tie! I liked Miles but it's always fun to listen to these battles. Is your next battle with the song It's De-Lovely??

    1. Ha! No, but that was a pretty good guess.

I'm glad you liked it, BIRGIT. They're a lot of fun for me to conjure up. Especially when a unique idea comes to me, such as with the next one.

  3. It's been a minute since you've had a tie, hasn't it? (not the kind you wear around your neck, silly boy) I personally liked both Miles and Botti so I'm okay with the outcome.

Does your next battle have anything to do with Cheech and Chong? Now that would be a twisted valentine!

Ha! A Cheech y Chong Valentines Day post -- even a twisted mind like mine can't conceive of that.

Yeah, all of about a minute since my last tie. The double-whammy of frustration is having two BOTB ties IN A ROW. And this is the SECOND time that's happened.

At least I know with 100% certainty that my next Battle will be a huge blowout. And that will actually seem kind of refreshing to me.

  4. Well, what about that. I would have thought Miles would win by a mile, but I'm old school and that's all I'll say a-Botti that.

I've never felt a bearskin rug, but it doesn't sound like something I'd want to lie naked on. I wonder if a bear would want to lie bare on a human skin rug?

    1. Even the Magic 8-Ball got fooled on this one.

I would imagine a bare bear on a human skin rug would barely even notice it.

  5. I'm so glad that Botti fared so well in your battle! I just loved his version. And I still haven't yet purchased his album (A Thousand Kisses Deep) but I sure plan on it!
Even though you don't like to have a tie, I think a tie is evidence of a great battle.
And frankly, lying "naked on a (FAUX) bear-skin rug in front of a lustily glowing fireplace": I'm all about that one! :)

Hope you're having a good weekend Stephen!

    1. Hi, MICHELE. I'm pleased you enjoyed Botti and the Battle.

I agree that a BOTB tie is the sign of a well-conceived Battle. And having experienced a total of 13 BOTB ties, and the last two in a row, I suppose that indicates that when it comes to BOTB, I'm smarter'n the average bear... skin rug.

But I'd rather never see another tie again! In all seriousness, it's a relief knowing that my next Battle on the 15th is guaranteed to be a big, bad blowout. Whew! No chance of a tie next time!
