Welcome back, my friends, to the "Battle" that never ends.
We're so glad you could attend. Come inside! Come inside!
.
This is 'BATTLE OF THE BANDS' ('BOTB') where you listen to different recordings and vote for the one you like best. A new Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and on the 7th, I place my own vote, tally 'em all up and announce the winner.
.
Friend? Foe? Stranger? No matter, ALL are welcome. So pull up a chair, pour yourself 24 oz. of DOG BITE High Gravity Lager (or the poison of your choice) and turn it up to Eleven!

BOTB RESULTS FOR JUNE 1, 2017 (Or, THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN')

.
.
STMcC’s Vote On
'2017, June 1st: Battle Of The Bands'
(Or, 'Cab Calloway Versus Tiny Tim') And The Final Tally:
.
First of all, it should come as no surprise to anyone who knows me that I have tossed my tiny BOTB vote Tiny Tim's way. I preferred his higher energy and more exciting instrumental approach to the song FRISCO FLO -- which happens to be one of my Top 3 favorite Tiny Tim recordings. By comparison, I thought Cab Calloway's recording was somewhat lackluster. I'd probably like it more than I do if there wasn't the Tiny Tim recording to compare it to.
.
As always, my sincere thanks to everyone who took time out from their other endeavors to listen and cast a vote in my Battle.
.
Tiny Tim jumped out to a quick lead which Cab Calloway was never able to make up any ground on. The results look like this:
.
Cab Calloway = 5 votes
Tiny Tim = 10 votes
.
This may come as a surprise to many, but Tiny Tim has now been used in 4 Battle Of The Bands installments and he has won 3 of them. Who-da thunk it?
.
And the Magic 8-Ball's predilection for bad predictions continues unabated.
.
Now, onto the results of the voting regarding future BOTB scheduling...
.
Voters overwhelmingly favored the idea of making BOTB a once-a-month blogfest occurring on the 15th.
.
Three persons voted to leave BOTB as it currently is: Two Battles every month, on the 1st and 15th. Eight voters preferred to make BOTB a once-a-month event, with one of those voters selecting the 1st of the month, and seven selecting the 15th of each month for the posting date. And one voter chose option #3, which was one Battle a month, with half of the BOTBers posting theirs on the 1st and the other half posting on the 15th. This doesn't leave much question about what the overall preference is for BATTLE OF THE BANDS.
.
I have never desired to be a leader in anything, let alone a dictator. So, far be it from me to make any sort of "official" decision on behalf of the BOTB community. I do not feel I have that authority, nor do I want it.
.
So, I am speaking solely for myself when I say that beginning on June 15th, THIS blog will be going to a one-Battle-per-month schedule, with the Battles posting on the 15th of each month and the results being announced on the 21st.
.
I want it known, however, that I will support with my votes any BOTBers who might decide to continue with the traditional two-per-month schedule. ANY Battle I'm aware of, I will vote on, regardless of the date and whether or not I myself have a Battle currently running. I think that's fair to all.
.
Initially, I announced I'd be leaving BOTB because I do not have the time to maintain 3 blogs at once. And being an All-Or-Nuttin' kind of guy, it had never even occurred to me to simply cut back my own Battles to one a month. But when that option was suggested (first by Debbie, if I recall correctly), I realized it would work for me -- allowing me to keep my hand in BOTB. So, this decision pleases me, and I'll be dogged if I won't commemorate it by using Bob Dylan's song THE TIMES THEY ARE A-CHANGIN' in my next BOTB installment on June 15th. I've already got my competitors chosen an' ever'thin'.
.
.
If any of y'all are planning to maintain the bi-monthly BOTB schedule, please let me know in the comment section so I'll be sure not to miss your Battles on the 1st of each month.
.
Thanks again to all you supporters of the BATTLE OF THE BANDS blogfest, and I hope to see ya here again on Thursday the 15th for my next installment!

  1. Your reasoning on the Tiny Tim vote was the same as mine. Cab was good, but the Tim Train was better.

I'll likely continue with a two Battle a month schedule for a while at least if for no other reason to use up a bunch of Battles in waiting. I'm kind of Battle obsessed these days which I guess I'd rather be battling song versions than out on the streets actually battling some idiotic force against reason and logic.

But as I've been saying, I'm mostly going to be just floating along taking life as it comes. For a while at least and maybe from now on.

    1. The "Tim Train" -- Ha! I like that, LEE.

Cab is often (usually) fun, but in this case, his celebratory song wasn't celebrating Flo's legacy even half as riotously as the Tim Train was.

Your retaining the traditional bi-monthly Battle schedule is totally cool with me. I'll be by to vote on all of them and give my 2.5 cents worth of opinion.

  2. All I can say is, the studio version (which wasn't available in Canada) of Tiny Tim's performance must have been WAY better than the one I listened to! ☺ Interesting outcome.

Yes, it was me who suggested cutting BOTB back to once a month on the 15th (which I'll be doing as of July). I'm thrilled that's going to work for you and that you're not quitting, Steven! In my case, it was a matter of freeing up some online time for other topics. Like you, I'll still try and vote on everyone's battles, regardless.

    1. Actually, yeah, I do think Tiny's studio recording of Frisco Flo is considerably better than the live one. It's similar in terms of arrangement, but Tiny's vocal and the audio quality are noticeably better.

Yeah, I don't mind at all voting on a few Battles taking place on the 1st of each month. But me having to post only one Battle a month and respond to comments will free up time for my other blogs. It's a Win!-Win!

See ya on the 15th, DEBBIE!

  3. Great outcome! On both accounts :)

I think I'll be scaling back to just the one battle a month on the 15th. And, yes, I'll be doing my darndest to make sure I visit everyone that also posts on the 1st. I have to keep that BOTB database up to date, ya know?

    1. Right-O, MARY!
("Right-O!" -- wasn't that Felix-The-Cat who used to say dat?)

You are unquestionably the official historian of BOTB, and you need to keep your records up-to-date! You just never know when someone like me might ask you: "Has anyone ever BOTBed the song 'THEN I'D BE SATISFIED WITH LIFE' before?

    2. I'd look it up and say "I don't have any record of that" but if I did have a record of it, I'd tell you the artists used, the outcome, who posted the battle and when. Then you could use your judgment if you wish to proceed with said battle or not.

  4. Yay!! So glad to hear that you'll be staying with the BOTB! Thanks for posting the poll: also glad that the majority wished to scale back to a once a month battle.

Between yours and Mary's battle, this was the most Tiny Tim I've heard since the 70s!!
    That was fun!

Will be shooting you an E probably this weekend, in reply to your meaty note. I love meaty!

    Talk soon.

    1. Thanks, MICHELE. Yes, I think BOTB once-a-month will work well.

It might even begin to generate more interest from others again. After years of this, perhaps we've been spreading ourselves a bit too thin (or diluting the interest with too much of a good thing).

With only one Battle a month, the contests might start to seem more significant and non-BOTBers might be more inclined to vote. As it's been, if you miss a Battle... oh well, there'll be another one in two weeks.

Which is more valuable, something rare or something common?

Well, we'll see. But anyway, I'm also glad I'm not leaving BOTB. I didn't really want to.
