MY FRIENDS, MY FRIENDS ~
I am dog-tired! I don't think I got a minute of sleep last night, so this is going to be short and right to the point.
.
First, I thank EVERYONE who showed up to vote in my most recent Battle Of The Bands (BOTB) installment [link> HERE.
.
The song was 'Theme From A SUMMER PLACE' and the contestants were Percy Faith & His Orchestra versus Chet Atkins (with Floyd Cramer on the piano).
.
It was a really nice turnout and I appreciate that. Also, I had a lot of fun with y'all in the comment section. Quite often it's the comment section interaction that I like best of all about BOTB! And this was one of those times. I dig the banter.
.
Without a doubt, Percy Faith was the favorite going in, and not surprisingly, he prevailed. There are reasons that Percy's recording of the song holds the all-time Billboard Chart record for most number of weeks at #1 for an Instrumental. It can elicit an indescribable feeling, which many of us tried to describe in the comment section. Also, if one intently focuses on every instrument in the recording, from beginning to end, it's a bit of a revelation how much is actually occurring in Percy's recording. This is definitely not just "a lot of sawing away on violins". My own vote went to Percy Faith & His Orchestra.
.
Of course, the Chet Atkins version was also terrific because... Chet Atkins! How could it not be terrific? And I was pleased to see it garner a number of votes. There was no way to "mis-vote" unless one missed voting altogether.
.
The Final Tally:
.
Percy Faith = 13 votes
.
Chet Atkins = 7 votes
.
And as for "The Battle Within The Battle", The Magic 8-Ball (3-0) and The Amazing Sixwell (1-2) BOTH predicted this Battle's outcome accurately.
.
Thanks again for being here, all y'all. I will be back with a brand new Battle on Tuesday, May 15th. I hope you will return for that one. ...And I also hope the comment section action is as fun as it was this time.
.
Bless And Be Blessed!

Another great battle in for the books! I can surely relate to you on the lack of sleep. I think I finally crashed around 8:30am - only to wake up 3 tiny hours later. I've got a case of Dragon Ass and insomnia. If only my brain would purge itself BEFORE I try to sleep...
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to next week's battle (and the hearty return of some fellow BOTB's)

DeleteWell, I am now into my second consecutive day of little to no sleep.
It's this overwhelming joy of being alive that keeps me awake all night.

Just as sarcastic as I know how to be!*}

Yeah for Percy! I love that name although I would never name my kid that....not that I have any...thanks god.

DeleteIn 2018, naming a child Percy is like guaranteeing him at least one beating per week at school.
I think it's no coincidence that there has never been an NFL star named Percy.

I can think of one. He played for us one season, though he was injured most of the time. He was a big deal with the Vikings, a pain in the tuchis with us, and now has retired.

Except Percy Harvin.
DeleteVery very fast. Now retired. Pain in the tuchis for my team.

Darn! I missed this one. That is a terrific instrumental: both versions. I hope you are prospering in the spring.

DeleteHere in Reno, it seems like we went directly from Winter to Summer in the span of about 7-10 days.
BTW, Reno sucks. Don't ever make the same mistake I did by moving here.

I'm actually surprised that Chet got more than a couple votes as it seemed like Percy was cleaning up on this Battle. That was a good Battle with a song that flooded me with memories as it seemed to do for so many others as well.

Tossing It Out
Yeah, LEE, I was pleasantly surprised to see how well Chet did, considering the "classic" he was going up against.
DeleteMy Brother said he thought this might become my first ever BOTB shutout. And, honestly, when he texted that to me, it made me nervous. I thought: Yeah, what the hell am I doing?!?!
But I got away with it, and overall, it turned out pretty well.
Sometimes I get gutsy (or stupid) and take a risk.
To this day, I still shake my head thinking about how I used Dave Brubeck's 'TAKE FIVE' and escaped without a shutout. ...Just call me Stephen Houdini. [;^D

Ha!-Ha! SBB-6, I found all of your comment attempts in my Dashboard (where they were supposed to be) and I published them all. What made you think they weren't being received?
ReplyDeleteYeah, that was one fast Percy! Looks to me like he was ditching his piano lessons and sneaking off to play with the boys. Mama gon be mad when she finds out that money for music lessons got wasted!

Hey there, Houdini!
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised Chet didn't get more votes. He really wasn't half bad. He just wasn't...well, you know ;-)
...Percy Faith?

When I post a comment, blogger shows a line highlighted in yellow that says sumpin' like: "your comment has been submitted for approval." For quite a while Blogger WOULD NOT let me post at all using the Chrome browser. The highlighted line did not appear, and neither did my comments, so I switched to a different browser and they always worked.
ReplyDeleteSwitching browsers was a pain, so after a few months I tried it again and their dumba** programmers got that bug fixed so I stayed in Chrome. Well, yesterday I kept posting comments and go NO highlighted line informing me that my comment might appear after you reviewed it. Same symptom as before when it never posted. So I switched browsers, posted again, and found TOTAL EGG ON MY FACE with many comments. Thanks again, Blogger.
I knew you had to be seeing (or not seeing) something that led you to believe that your submitted comments weren't making it through.
ReplyDeleteFAE also has a ton of trouble with comments. Sometimes hers wind up in my Spam file, which I don't normally check unless someone says they submitted something that didn't show in my Dashboard.
FAE can use the same computer and the same browser and the comments may or may not go to "Spam". No rhyme or reason that I've been able to figure out.
I know I'm going to regret saying this but... I've not had any problems with Blogger for quite awhile. It used to be that about every 3 months their I.T. people would screw up something that had been working just fine. Is it possible that they've finally realized that what isn't broken does not need to be fixed?
Wait 'n' watch now and see if a bug doesn't occur just because I had to mention how I've had no troubles for awhile.
Yeah, "glass half-empty" guy here.

Pardon me for stepping in... but I have 2 people who I NEVER get any notification of comments from. Their comments are just there. It's weird. I don't have comments set up for moderation (unless the post is a week old) But these 2 people - it's like they have the keys to google or something.

MMQE ~
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing it's probably a browser thing. But then again, I'm one of the most computer illiterate people in the blogosphere, so... I don't really know nuttin'.
How do you have your system set up? You get an Email every time someone posts a comment... except for those 2 persons?
And, by chance, might I be one of the 2 persons?

I do get an email every time someone comments - with the exception of these 2 people. And no, you are not one of them.

That's odd. Because when there's a rebel in the group, it's usually me.

Anther good BOTB - and am also surprised Aktins got 7 votes.. in hindsight not knowing of Percy Faith's record breaking #1. The more popular Jackson Brown lost and the more popular Percy Faith won. You must have the most unpredictable battles. I can say, having a lower batting average than Criswell, your BOTB are curveballs.
ReplyDeleteHowdy, McBROTHER DOGG!
DeleteI thank ya, sir! Even though I was a Percy Faith voter, I was really happy to see Chet do as well as he did. (Regardless of any personal preferences I may have, what I'm almost always hoping to see is a really tight race all the way to the BOTB Finish Line.)
If I could use but a single word to describe BOTB, "unpredictable" would be that word. And I'm thankful for that, because it's the unpredictable nature of the beast that has kept it interesting for (nearly) five years now!
I've said this a number of times: If I could accurately predict the outcome of every Battle, there would be no point and no fun in doing them.
Yeah, I think you're right! They're curveballs, with an occasional Phil Niekro knuckleball thrown in just for variety's sake.
I got another Battle coming up on Tuesday, and even from the get-go, I have no real idea who is going to win. It'll be another big hit versus a mostly unknown, but I can imagine either song coming out on top.
Thanks for your continued participation, my friend! It truly is appreciated.
Have yourself a great, Dog Bite Lager weekend, Buddy!
