Welcome back, my friends, to the "Battle" that never ends.
We're so glad you could attend. Come inside! Come inside!
.
This is 'BATTLE OF THE BANDS' ('BOTB') where you listen to different recordings and vote for the one you like best. A new Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and on the 7th, I place my own vote, tally 'em all up and announce the winner.
.
Friend? Foe? Stranger? No matter, ALL are welcome. So pull up a chair, pour yourself 24 oz. of DOG BITE High Gravity Lager (or the poison of your choice) and turn it up to Eleven!

BOTB RESULTS: 2019, FEB. 15 (Or, ANTON KARAS VS. EDDIE COCHRAN)

.
STMcC’s Vote On '2019, February 15th: Battle Of The Bands' (BOTB) - Or, Anton Karas Versus Eddie Cochran - And The Final Tally:
.
.
I'm a day late in presenting the results of my last BOTB installment, and here's why: I am able to joyfully announce that my big move is finally finished. I completed it at about 2:30 PM yesterday, and my dog, Muddy, and I celebrated with a glass of a certain kind of rum that I'd been craving since February 6th.
.
.
Due to bizarre weather (strange snowstorms), what should have been a pretty simple and easy move from Reno to Carson City was absolutely brutal and left me physically exhausted and mentally drained. But I thank God that it's over now. And as soon as the snow melts off and this town dries out a bit, I think I'm going to love it here. Carson City is 30 miles and 50 years away from Reno.
.
My most recent Battle took place HERE. It was the theme music from the Film Noir classic 'The Third Man' - the original 1949 recording by Anton Karas versus Eddie Cochran's cover recorded ten years later. The contest began as a beat-down, with Karas getting the first six votes and me scratching my head. But then Eddie's fans started showing up and Cochran scored 9 of the next 10 votes for an incredible comeback!
.
Anton Karas = 7 votes
.
Eddie Cochran = 9 votes
.
I also voted for Cochran. Judge Al Bondigas said: "To tell you the truth, after awhile the Anton Karas version kind of got on my nerves. Also, it was way too long for my liking." I concur completely. I enjoy the original tune fairly well, but the sound of the zither gets very old pretty quickly for me. Anton's 4-minute recording is about 2-minutes too long, as far as I am concerned.
.
Eddie's guitar version, however, swings like nobody's bidnizz! "Swing" is a musical term that I'm not sure has ever been adequately defined, but you know it when you're hearing it. And, frankly, in my book, there may not be any recording by anyone that I think swings more than Eddie's [link> "Fourth Man Theme" does. I know this much: I think it swings more than Ella Fitzgerald's version of 'It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing' does! Give it another listen and while it's playing, ask yourself, "Does this swing?" and see how you answer.
.
Well, this turned out to be a dern good Battle, and I feel the version that shoulda won, DID win, even if it required a monumental comeback from an immediate 6-vote deficit.
.
In The Battle Within The Battle, The Amazing Sixwell (16-6), who is indeed prognosticating amazingly well these days, beat The Magic 8-Ball (13-9) yet again.
.
My thanks to all of you who took the time to listen and vote. Your participation was greatly appreciated. And I hope to see you all back here again on March 1st, as I have something kind of special planned for my next installment of Battle Of The Bands.

You are indeed a fan. The most A-list Anton fan I personally know. Thanks for always contributing your $0.02 to the BOTB kitty!

  2. We've been having weirdly cold weather in L.A. Reports were of snow in Malibu and other places. Climate change.

Good competitive Battle. I liked both versions which usually makes it tough to choose.

Yeah, snow in Malibu, Vegas, parts of Phoenix, and even Maui. Meanwhile, Sheboyganboy was wearing short sleeves in 60-degree weather while walking in Central Park, NYC.

That's beyond weird. And what's curious is that I noticed here in Northern Nevada that suddenly AccuWeather was able to predict everything spot-on from 4 and 5 days out. But as soon as things went back to normal, suddenly AccuWeather was "Ol' Unreliable" again, as usual.

I'll let you play "Columbo" and see if you can figure out how come that. (I'm pretty sure I've got the answer.)

  3. I'm glad your moving ordeal is finally over, Stephen! Aren't snowstorms pretty unusual for Nevada? Carson City must have a lot of interesting places to see, with its rich history. I'm not surprised Eddie Cochrane won the battle, even though I picked the other one. At least it was close! Enjoy your new home.

    1. Thank you, DEBBIE!
As far as snow in Nevada is concerned, it depends upon where in the state we're talking about. Yes, it's abnormal in the Southern part of Nevada (like Las Vegas) but it's common during Winter here in the Northern portion.

However, during this odd February, Las Vegas did get snow, and Carson City got pounded in comparison to Reno. It's usually the other way around, with Reno getting more snow than CC. It was a weird-ass February, and I strongly suspect that much of it was related to chemtrails and geo-engineering. I think this was a test. (This was only a test. If this had been an actual emergency, the Attention Signal you just heard would have been followed by official information, news, or instructions... from Uncle Scam, who is always here to help you.)

Ha! Anyway... thanks for the good wishes! Today, I plan to get some serious "un-boxing" done, as well as making a trip to my bank to order checks with my new address on them. And as soon as I can muster up the courage, I'll make that dreaded trip to the Department of Motor Vehicles. GAH!!

  4. Stephen,

I'm happy that you're now officially all moved into your new place. *applauds* We're currently having flash flooding in our city and it's still raining! Tonight, gusty winds are expected which might mean downed trees. Oh boy, that will cause some problems with flooded streets. Let's keep our fingers crossed and say a prayer that our power stays on. My pick won, so I'm a happy girl! Have a good weekend, my friend!

Thanks for the *applause*. It wasn't easy, but I think it will be very much worth it in the long run.

I noticed that even just planning for the move to Carson City from Reno caused my high blood pressure to lower itself magically. Ha!-Ha! I probably don't really even have high blood pressure. It was probably all just from living in Reno, and I'll bet I can get off the prescription medications now.

Doc Cherdo lives in your area, and she was telling me about all the flooding, and texted me some photos. That was pretty ugly. And what makes me mad is that I'm pretty sure a lot of this "February Weirdness" was manipulated by Wizards Behind The Curtain. I know that weather is cyclical and there are disasters every year in various places. That's "normal". But I don't remember it ever being a "national" event before. That is, weird weather across the entire nation simultaneously - snowing in Malibu, Maui, Vegas, Phoenix, while it's short-sleeve weather in New York City. I'm willing to believe in some coincidences and some irony, but there is definitely a breaking point for me, where I have to look deeper. And this February definitely reached that point.

Be well, my friend. Stay safe and dry, and we'll meet again over the next round of BOTB.
