.
Welcome back, my friends, to the "Battle" that never ends.
We're so glad you could attend. Come inside! Come inside!
.
This is 'BATTLE OF THE BANDS' ('BOTB') where you listen to different recordings and vote for the one you like best. A new Battle gets posted on the 1st of each month and on the 7th, I place my own vote, tally 'em all up and announce the winner.
.
Friend? Foe? Stranger? No matter, ALL are welcome. So pull up a chair, pour yourself 24 oz. of DOG BITE High Gravity Lager (or the poison of your choice) and turn it up to Eleven!
.

BOTB RESULTS: APRIL 1, 2023 (Or, THE DOCTOR VS. THE OUTLAW)

.
The Battle Of The Bands contest took place HERE, and in usual fashion, Doctor John administered another colonoscopy to another victim. In this case, the victim was Waylon Jennings.
.
It was a tough call for me because I really dig both songs, 'Right Place, Wrong Time' and 'I Ain't Living Long Like This'. I sided just slightly with my favorite Outlaw, Waylon. Why? Well, I love the frantic energy of the song, and that razor-sharp Honky-Tonk piano that just kicks the song through the wall. Plus, there's a lot of things I can relate to in the lyrics. (Some of you know what I mean.)
.
Anyway, the drubbing ended like this:
.
FINAL TALLY
Dr. John = 8  (4 wins, 0 losses)
Waylon Jennings = 3

.
My sincere thanks to every one of you who took the time to stop by and cast a vote. Your involvement is greatly appreciated.
.
I intend to return here again on JUNE 1st with a new BOTB installment, and I hope you will all return here as well. Until then, this is the D-FensDogG, Stephen T. McCarthy saying...
.
Bless And Be Blessed!!

  1. Maybe it's time to let Dr John walk away with his crown and let the peons squabble amongst each other.

This Dr John guy is apparently invincible. At least in the arena he's been battling in.

    1. Wrong! But thanks for playing.

[Dr. John will need to win two more Battles before he is crowned. And the one in September will be his stiffest challenge. I'm not sure he's gonna survive the wrestler known as 'Coup de GrĂ¢ce'.]

  2. I'm not surprised Dr John won in this round. The good news is I helped to make his win possible. :) I read your comment on Debbie's site about Mary. I know she's having a rough time. If you're in contact with her, please let her know she's in my prayers. I will send her an email expressing that but I don't want her to feel like she has to answer, you know? My results are in this week's 4M post. Have a boogietastic week, dear friend!

  3. I think you should go back to twice a month battles, working in some other battles on the off weeks from Dr. John vs. the world. Something like Le Petomane vs. Kris Kristofferson (a tossup,) or say, a battle of national anthems. Like Estonia vs. Finland.

Two Battles a month is too much time investment for me. And I can barely get myself inspired to do what I do now. I like the BOTB installments on the first of each month, but I've completely abandoned my F-FFF blog. (Although I'm gonna try to publish some piece of writing about dreams on it pert-soon... even though it'll go unnoticed.)

Honestly, I didn't expect Dr. John to win every contest in this series. And I see now that it can cause burnout. So here's my new plan:

In June & July, I'm going to do Battles unrelated to the $ilver Dollar $aloon $ong Challenge. Then in August I'll do Dr. John again against a performer whom I promised would get a rematch.

September & October will be Battles not related to the $D$$C. And then the final installment with Dr. John (or the new king) against a "special" song that just *might* be able to finish this $ong Challenge as the reigning champion.

I have an idea for a themed series in 2024 that could literally go on for years. I'm really excited about this new idea which will allow for a tremendous amount of musical variety. But next time, instead of letting the winner go on and on against new contestants, after an artist wins a couple Battles, I will retire his song and save it for later "post-season" playoffs. This will alleviate any song burnout effect.

    2. POSTSCRIPT:

      >>... or say, a battle of national anthems. Like Estonia vs. Finland.

      How about Russia versus Ukraine?

    3. That would me timely, true. For only for a short time. Ukraine's anthem ironically begins: "Ukraine is not yet lost..." Soon they can change that to "Ukraine has lost, but really the eastern 1/3 were Russians all the time."

The humor of Estonia vs. Finland matchup is that the anthems (musically) are exactly the same.

      GOL!
I learned something new today. And... hmmm.... I just may have to *do* that Battle. :^D

  4. I don't even want to talk about my battle outcome - but comparatively, yours is terrific ;-)
Thoughts and prayers to Mary, if you will.
I hope you do write about dreams.
You and Sixgun are kicking around some great ideas ;-)

    1. Howdy, dIEDRE ~

I am thinking about posting a thing about dreams on F-FFF. Or even using this "dreams" thingy to resurrect my old 'STUFFS' blog because, thematically, it doesn't really belong on F-FFF. Although I could probably emphasize the "Spiritual" component and *force* it to work.

Sixgun was the punk who inspired me to do a "Battle For Los Angeles" theme on BOTB, and I can even foresee myself returning to that concept occasionally in the future... *IF* there *is* a "future".

Well, for better or worse, I've posted the first thing on my F-FFF blog in a mini-age. It's the history of my interest in dreams and a couple of fairly recent ones that were quite notable... for bizarre reasons.

    3. I have always been impressed by your dreams. For one thing, you remember them. I rarely remember mine, but I wish that I could. For another thing, your dreams often seem meaningful rather than just your "random id, run amok." There is a point that either God, His angels, or your own subconscious is trying to convey to you.

Like Jacob, Joseph, and Daniel (I've put you in pretty lofty company there! Maybe I should crank it back just a notch,) you seem able to pull the spiritual meaning from dreams. While I think that there is usually a spiritual meaning or lesson to be pulled out of everything, most people don't even see a spiritual meaning in the obvious, let alone the obtuse.

Having a Ferret-Face myself, and being a friend, I will go check out the latest dreams of Stephen Thoreau McCarthy.

Hmmm... how about a BotB about dreams? "Dreaming, dreaming is free" and so is Battle of the Bands.

All the best peoples are fascists (even if they have trouble defining the word). I'm both a "ferret-faced fascist" as well as an outright McCarthyite. (McCarthy was right. All we gotta do is just look around us.)

      >>...Like Jacob, Joseph, and Daniel (I've put you in pretty lofty company there! Maybe I should crank it back just a notch,)

Ha!-Ha! Yeah, maybe dial it back down to 10. ;^D

I don't always remember my dreams, but I do recall a good number of them because they are so vivid and so astonishing.

Honestly, the thing that impresses me the most is how detailed and lengthy the storylines are that my subconscious mind weaves from disparate and insignificant activities or fleeting thoughts I've had during the daytime.

Upon reflection, sometimes I can pick out 3 or 4 or 5 simple little things that happened, or brief thoughts I had a day or two or three earlier, that find their way into my dream. The ability of my subconscious mind to form stories around these little "nothings" is well beyond my conscious mind's talent.

If I could consciously write stories the way my subconscious mind writes stories, I would be a genius, and a world-famous wealthy author.

But, alas, I am just an unknown blogger with a following I can count on one hand.
